WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A woman is in custody after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with her car while under the influence.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deb Slater said deputies responded to the collision north of Lynden around 10:30 Thursday night.
The victim had been reportedly walking on Northwood Road when they were struck by the car. They were transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center with an inner thigh laceration, cuts on their elbow and hands and possibly a concussion.
Deputies attempted to perform a field sobriety test on the driver, but she became aggressive and refused all tests before being placed into custody. Security cameras from a nearby casino showed the driver leaving its parking lot at a high rate of speed and running a stop sign on her way out before the collision. Further investigation revealed that the driver knew the victim.
Slater said probable cause exists to believe the suspect, 31-year-old Brittany Morrison, was driving under the influence and committed vehicular assault. She remains at the Whatcom County Jail without bail.
