OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A statewide program aimed at slowing down speeding drivers in work zones has proven to be successful.
WSP says that in the first 90 days of its initiative, work zones cameras nabbed almost 7,600 drivers travelling over the posted limit. Nearly 4,000 other potential tickets are still being investigated.
Most of the tickets issued were for first-time speeding violators. But during the first 90 says of the work zone speed camera enforcement period, almost $65,000 in fines were issued to repeat offenders.
$125 fines are scheduled to be implemented for first-time speeding infractions next year.
