ORCAS ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A ferry crew is being credited for jumping into action to rescue rowboaters in distress.
Washington State Ferries says that the crew of the Tilikum received a call about the boat from the Coast Guard around 9:45 Friday morning, Aug. 14.
The rowboat near Orcas Island was taking on water and wasn’t able to move.
Crewmembers changed the Tilikum’s course, got into a rescue boat and safely brought the rowboat’s occupants to shore.
None of those who were rescued required any medical attention.
WSF thanked the Tilikum crew, adding that their ferry crews regularly practice and conduct water rescues across the Puget Sound.
