EVERETT, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A state trooper fatally shot a man who attacked road workers on I-5 in Everett Thursday, May 16.
Troopers responded at about 4 p.m. to a report of a road rage incident on the shoulder of I-5 near Highway 2.
The driver of a vehicle started ramming a WSDOT contractor vehicle that had a lift operating over a slough with two contractors on board. The driver had a hammer as he attacked two workers, injuring one, and got into their vehicle for a short period before running across the freeway.
A responding trooper fatally shot the man. It wasn’t clear exactly what led to the shooting, how many shots were fired or why the driver allegedly began the attack.
The names of the trooper and the person who was shot and killed have not been released. A multi-agency panel is investigating the shooting.
The incident shut down the freeway for hours Thursday evening.
