WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) has announced that this year’s Community Van Grant Program has started accepting applications.

Nonprofits and government organizations already operating in Whatcom County can apply to receive a retired WTA vanpool van. The transportation authority says that up to 11 vans that seat between 12 and 15 passengers will be available for the program.

WTA’s Vanpool Coordinator Malcolm Duncan-Graves says the recipients will only receive a van and must provide their own drivers plus track the van’s driving use for the first year.

The vans must be used for community transportation, and the application is open now through Aug. 23 at 3 p.m.
