BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new bus route to Bellingham’s downtown waterfront could be in the works. Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) is hosting a public hearing at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 15 to discuss and receive public comment on the potential addition.

WTA is proposing two new interim bus routes that would operate seven days a week starting this fall. One would add a route from the downtown bus station to Granary Avenue at the waterfront and the other would travel down Roeder Avenue to Squalicum Harbor.

WTA says it has considered adding service to the Bellingham waterfront for many years and is trying to speed up the process to serve the new multi-family housing and daycare facility there. The interim routes would give WTA a baseline to build a more expanded service, which it’s aiming to launch in about a year.

The public hearing takes place at WTA’s headquarters on 4011 Bakerview Spur, but also offers virtual attendance via Zoom.
