BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University (WWU) has finalized its budget for the upcoming school year.

The school’s Board of Trustees approved the nearly $240 million budget at its meeting on Thursday, June 11.

It includes $9 million in reductions, seven million of which were already approved in last year’s biennial budget plan. As part of the reductions, each division of the university will have its budget cut by 0.5%.

Overall, Western will need to use nearly $2.4 million of reserves in order to balance the budget.

Provost Brad Johnson told the board that the school is currently about 300 students short of its goal for 3,200 first-year students this fall. Still, he said WWU is on track to see a boost in its incoming class compared to last year, while other universities of its size across the state are expected to see decreases in enrollment.

Cascadia Daily News was first to report on the new budget.
