Bob Ferguson, a Democrat who has been attorney general since 2013, will face former Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert on Sept. 18.

Reichert rebutted Ferguson’s attacks with repeatedly pointing out higher crime rates under Gov. Inslee’s administration.

A recount was ordered after Upthegrove posted an even smaller lead immediately following the primary. 

Whatcom County Superior Court ruled that the initiative to repeal the childcare fund was functionally invalid.

The county has not heard back after asking Trump’s campaign to reimburse the county for security costs during his rally at the Lynden Fairgrounds in May of 2016.

The state’s Debate Coalition cancelled the Oct. 11 event at Central Washington University after Ferguson’s announcement.

The lawsuit alleges the company is violating antitrust laws through its algorithm that landlords use to get recommended rental prices.

Whatcom County Auditor Stacy Henthorn says the office has to send the ballots to the printers by Sept. 6 and make the voter’s guide available online on Sept. 20. Whether Initiative 1 is on either item will need to be determined before Sept. 6 – just over two weeks away.

The preliminary count showed Democrat Dave Upthegrove defeating Republican Sue Kuehl Pederson for second place by just 51 votes—less than a hundredth of a percentage-point difference.

Among the parties represented is the recently created Cascade Party led by Krist Novoselic, the former bassist of rock band Nirvana.
