A Bellingham man died after purchasing what he initially though was cocaine but was actually fentanyl.

Police did not pursue the driver for fear of public safety since he was traveling at a high rate of speed without headlights on, but their ensuing investigation identified him as a 17-year-old from Bellingham. 

The deputy was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
