The majority of law enforcement agencies in Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan Counties will be participating in the patrol as part of a statewide effort.

It comes as SR 544 is scheduled to close between Everson Bridge and Everson Elementary School starting next Wednesday, April 15. That will not reopen until mid-July as crews install new sidewalks.

State officials have already begun the work to protect the state’s lands against blazes, including hiring seasonal fire fighters and clearing brush.

Those interested have until Aug. 3 to apply for the position.

The festivities kick off with a party at Wander Brewing on Friday, April 10 before a series of events throughout 14 participating breweries in Bellingham.
