The stretch has been closed since a rockslide on April 22. It was covered by a pile of boulders initially estimated to be 30′ high and 150′ long.
The final stage of the project is to pave the roadway, which began this week.
Drivers could expect delays while driving southbound on Thursday.
There is not expected time that the final stretch of the highway will be open for travelers this year.
The work is being done in addition to ongoing construction at the Peter Paulsen Pavilion on the hospital’s campus.
