WSDOT shut down both lanes of the interstate until the early morning hours of Sept. 5 in order to tow the damaged semi-truck off the road.

The road was closed on Aug. 4 due to the combination of the Easy Fire and a mudslide. Over 7,000 tons of debris was removed from the mudslide area to clear the road.

Crews initially predicted that it would take two days to clear the mud, now WSDOT says the road will remain closed for several more days.

I-5 was backed up for four miles as crews worked to clear the area of the vehicles that reignited once tow trucks pulled them apart.

A meeting discussing the bus route proposal included public comment, where many individuals expressed widespread enthusiasm for the new waterfront service.
