Mt. Baker received almost 3 feet of snow over the weekend.

The winter storm warning could lead to a foot of snow Monday, and a storm watch later this week could drop as much as 3 feet of snow in the mountains.

Forecasters estimate a nearly 50 percent chance of Bellingham receiving an inch or more of snow Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Event organizers including Ski To Sea are also taking note of the situation.

With temperatures dropping this week, multiple shelters reopen to serve the public.

Forecasters also say the rain could increase the threat of river flooding in the North Cascades, but the Nooksack River is not currently forecast to reach flood levels.

Major roads closed due to floodwaters include Slater Road between the Ferndale city limits and Ferndale Road, as well as Hannegan Road between Front Street and Polinder Road just south of Lynden.

The NWS has issued flood warnings to communities near the Nooksack River until Tuesday.

Overnight shelters are also operating across Whatcom County.

Buses will attempt to bring home passengers who got on a bus this morning.
