The property was purchased by the city using funding from the Greenways Levy and officially opened to the public on Friday, Feb. 6. 

Court documents state that the petition was initially filed by a group of Sumas residents in 2024. 

The man will spend six months in prison.

It comes amid an influx of overdose prevention resources across the county.

He remains at the Whatcom County Jail on $200,000 bail.
