OLYMPIA, WA (KGMI.COM) – Some student loan borrowers in Washington are getting some of their money back.
State Attorney General Bob Ferguson says that his office has recovered nearly $360,000 from debt adjusters this year.
That comes to about $800 per borrower.
Adjusters are often accused of preying on borrowers, especially in light of student loan repayments restarting.
This round of restitution comes from three out-of-state debt adjusters – Skyway Financial Group, Student Aid Group, and Allied Financial.
All three are accused of charging borrowers excessive fees with promises of repaying their student loan debts.
Ferguson says that his resolution against the three companies also prevents them from continuing their deceptive practices in Washington.
To date, the AG’s office has recovered over $2 million in student loan restitution to Washington borrowers.
