BELLINGHAM, WA – (KGMI.com) A man was sentenced Tuesday for drug trafficking throughout Washington among other charges.

38-year-old Alan Gomez-Marentes will spend the next 11 years in prison for conspiracies to distribute drugs and commit money laundering.

He was originally convicted in 2005 for distributing cocaine at Washington State University, resulting in five years in prison and his subsequent deportation to Mexico.

Gomez-Marentes also was convicted in Mexico for drug trafficking and spent another five years in prison there.

He was arrested for the most recent bout of crime in July 2020 after an 18-month investigation of an extensive drug trafficking organization.

US District Judge John C. Coughenour said in a statement the heavier sentence on the second US offense reflects the size of the drug trafficking ring and the amount of fentanyl the operation brought into the community.

The investigation found Gomez-Marentes to be in a leadership role and his sentencing is the final one for all convicted of involvement in the organization and related crimes.
