WHATCOM COUNTY, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) As freezing temperatures sweep over Whatcom County, minimal road closures and school delays affect the county as of Friday morning.
The National Weather Service in Seattle says we could see record-breaking cold temperatures through at least early next week. Forecasters say those freezing temperatures and wind chill could bring potential lows down to -25 degrees across western Washington over the weekend.
There is currently a wind advisory and a wind chill advisory in effect for western Whatcom County through 7 am Saturday.
WSDOT reports there is a pole and power line down on the Mount Baker Highway at Eastwood Road. The highway is fully closed until further notice at that location. Crews estimate that drivers should seek an alternate route if headed in that direction.
Due to road conditions in the area, the Mount Baker School District announced this morning that all locations will be operating on a 2-hour delay.
The MyBellinghamNow newsroom will continue to update closures in Whatcom County.
