BELLINGHAM, WA – (MyBellinghamNow.com) The Port of Bellingham has announced the beginning of their $27.5 million Shipping Terminal Modernization Project.
The Port says they are excited to start the two-year project that will help protect both the environment and the local economy.
The new project, announced with a press release on Thursday, involves removing about 22,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment from the Whatcom Waterway, as well as replacing 140 feet of the main dock. The Port also plans to build a state-of-the-art stormwater management system that reduces the environmental impact from terminal operations.
The estimated result of this project is to see a wider range of cargo that is able to come through the Port.
Construction crews will be working 24/7 until the project is completed in Spring of 2025.
