BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Western Washington University women’s basketball team is beginning its road to the national tournament with this week’s Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships.
The Vikings won last year’s conference tournament title in an instant classic at Carver Gym, where they stormed back from a 17-point deficit to beat rival Montana State Billings 76-71. The two teams split the regular season series this year and could be primed for a rematch in the upcoming GNAC title game.
This year’s GNAC Championships are being held in Ellensburg. The No. 2 seeded Vikings and top-seeded Yellowjackets will both get a first-round bye after finishing as the top two teams in the conference standings. The Vikings will play the winner of No. 3 Alaska Anchorage vs No. 6 Seattle Pacific at noon on Friday. The Yellowjackets will face the winner of No. 4 Central Washington vs No. 5 Simon Frasier.
The final game will take place on Saturday, March 9, at 5:00 p.m., with the winner receiving an automatic bid in the NCAA Division II tournament.
Each game of the tournament will be broadcast live on the GNAC’s YouTube channel. Fans can also keep up to date with live stats on WWU Athletics’ website. Those looking to attend the games can find tickets here.
