BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Look closely, and you might notice Bellingham Police officers with a new look on their uniforms.
The department recently unveiled a new badge design, replacing the old one after nearly 70 years.
The badge features the old city hall building, now the Whatcom Museum, in an effort to honor Bellingham’s history and for security purposes.
The department said in a news release that the previous eagle-top design was “generic” and could easily confused with a knockoff badge.
It’s the fourth design change to the badge since the department was established in 1904, where it was located in the Old City Hall.
Officers began wearing the new badge as early as last November.
