BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Bellingham Public Schools has officially moved into their new district offices.

The district announced that it opened its new office on Barkley Boulevard in late March. The new office includes an early learning center with two classrooms to offer childcare to district staff and the community starting in fall 2024.

The building was funded by voter-supported bonds from 2013 and 2022, while the early learning center was backed by two separate grants.

BPS vacated its old district office on Dupont Street in January after a water pipe burst and caused extensive flooding damage throughout the building. Plans to remodel it were scrapped when the district decided it would be cheaper to find a new site.

It was built in 1908 as Roeder Elementary School before housing administrative office in the 1970s. At 115 years old, it was the oldest facility in the BPS district.

The district says they plan to sell the old building sometime this summer or fall. It will vote on whether to declare a property surplus at a school board meeting on Wednesday night.

Members of the public are able to tour the new building during an open house from 3-6 p.m. next Thursday, April 25.
