MOSCOW, ID (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The man accused of killing four University of Idaho (UI) students, including one young man from Skagit County, has offered up an alibi.
Court documents state that Bryan Kohberger’s attorney claims he was out driving south of Pullman on the night of the murders.
Lead defense attorney Anne Taylor said in the court filing that Kohberger was an avid runner and hiker who often went out for late-night drives.
Kohberger’s team plans to bring in a cell tower location information expert to testify that Kohberger could not have been at the scene on the night of the murders. Police, however, said that Kohberger’s phone was not communicating with his cellphone provider during a two-hour period when the murders occurred.
Kohberger is charged with four counts of murder in connection with the stabbing deaths of Ethan Chapin of Skagit County and three Idaho women at a Moscow rental home in November 2022.
No date has been set for the trial. The prosecution pushed for a summer 2024 trial start date, while defense attorneys wanted an additional year to go through the “mountain of evidence.” Kohberger’s team added that there were over 400 witnesses to interview and needed the summer 2025 start date to go through them.
