BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Expect delays on I-5 in Bellingham later this weekend.

WSDOT says the right lane of southbound I-5 will be closed between Lakeway Drive and Samish Way from 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 19 until 6 a.m. Monday, May 20.

Maintenance crews will be working to remove and replace a broken concrete panel.

The southbound I-5 off-ramp exit to Samish Way will still be open to traffic.

WSDOT is advising drivers to plan for additional travel time during the construction.

Drivers should also expect long delays at a major intersection in Whatcom County this weekend.

Whatcom County Public Works says utility workers are doing weekend work at the E. Smith and Hannegan Road intersection on Saturday, May 18.

The work is expected to last from 6 a.m. Saturday through 2 a.m. Sunday.

Public Works advises drivers to plan for long delays or to use alternate routes to avoid extended wait times.

The announcement comes ahead of a major roundabout construction project at the intersection that’s scheduled to begin on May 28.
