LONGWOOD, FL (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Western Washington University softball team faced elimination twice on Wednesday but didn’t blink.
They bested UIndy 2-1 in a 12-inning early game then dominated the Greyhounds 7-1 in the nightcap.
Freshman pitchers Alli Kimball and Kaiana Kong sparkled in both wins. Kimball pitched 13 strong innings over both elimination games while Kong refused to allow a score in relief.
GNAC Player of the Year Hailey Rath opened the scoring for the Vikings in the second game with a three run homer. It was just the second round-tripper served up all season by NCAA Division II National Pitcher of the Year Kenzee Smith.
The 52-10 Vikings move on to the NCAA Division II Championship Series against No. 2 nationally ranked and tournament 4 seed UT Tyler. The best of three series begins with game one Friday at 9:00 a.m. PT. The game will be live-streamed at NCAA.com.
