BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – There are plenty of outdoor events in Whatcom County this weekend and, weather permitting, we might actually get to enjoy them. So, pray for dry weather if you head out to any of these events and remember; there is no such thing as bad weather, just different kinds of pleasant weather.
The Bellingham Bells kick off their season on Friday, May 31 at Joe Martin Field with a three-game series against the Edmonton Riverhawks. It is always fun to pop down and root for the home team and the weather looks good for the opener. Tickets are $12 at bellstickets.com.
You will want to keep an eye out for potential rainouts throughout the weekend, but there are some other great options for you if a ballgame does not work out.
How does a parade sound? Up in Lynden, the Farmers Day Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1 on Front Street. It is one of the longest running parades in the Pacific Northwest featuring eclectic cars, tractors, trucks, horses and more. Plus, Congressman Rick Larsen will be walking in the parade. Head on up to Lynden to celebrate the rich agricultural history of our area. Go to lynden.org for all the details.
June is Pride Month and Saturday is also the 2024 Youth PRIDE Parade and Festival in Bellingham. It is an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to walk together in a short parade around downtown. It wraps up at Bellingham High School where you can get resources from local organizations, eat food from local food trucks and enjoy music performance.
The Youth PRIDE Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Halleck Street. For all the details and a parade route map, go to whatcomyouthpride.com.
Here is something fun for all the gearheads out there. Willands Tech Auto in Ferndale is celebrating their 87th birthday with a BBQ Bash on Saturday, June 1. There will be games, music, raffles and fun for all ages. They are also serving up hot dogs, burgers, brats and vegan options. Proceeds from the raffles and silents auction go to benefit the Ferndale Downtown Association. The Bash is free to attend, but food and raffle tickets are extra.
Willands’ 87th Birthday BBQ Bash runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their location on Vista Drive.
Our featured live music this weekend is an all-ages show at the Blue Room. Dean Johnson will bring his catchy folk melodies to downtown Bellingham on Sunday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. His debut album Nothing for Me was recorded in New Orleans with help from Sons of Rainier and members of Mashed Potatoes. He will be performing with Cabin Fever NW, an Americana group with members from right here in the city of subdued excitement.
