CUSTER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Portal Way between Valley View and Arnie Road near Custer is closed due to a train derailment that occurred the evening of Tuesday, June 4.

BNSF confirms that six cars carrying mixed freight derailed at 10:45 p.m. The railway says no injuries were reported and there is no danger to the public or damage to its main line.

The cause is under investigation.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says Portal Way will be closed all day in the area while BNSF assesses the situation. The public is asked to avoid the area.
