WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – We are in store for some spectacular weather this weekend in Whatcom County and this week’s Lifestyle Lookout has some perfect activities to take it all in.
The City of Ferndale presents their Summer of Fun series with live music, movies and food trucks at Pioneer Village. This series includes Food Truck Fridays every second Friday of the month through August. There will be live music from Baby Cakes on July 19 and Lemon Creek on August 17.
Flicks in the Park debuts this Friday, June 21 with a showing of Barbie. If you haven’t seen this PG-13 blockbuster yet, now is your chance. If you have seen it, this is a chance to see it like never before, projected on an outdoor screen. Barbie starts shortly after 9 p.m.
Other movies include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem on June 28, Kung Fu Panda 4 on July 12 and Migration on August 23.

Ferndale’s Summer of Fun is free and presented by WECU.
How does a paddle on Bellingham Bay sound? Pride Paddle Out runs every Friday through September. Join the LGBTQIA+ community at Community Boating Center in Fairhaven for a casual paddle along Bellingham’s waterfront. They’ll have kayaks and paddle boards to choose from for just $10. It’s first come first serve, so get there early if you want your pick.
Pride Paddle Out hits the water at 5:30 p.m. You’ll need to register online at boatingcenter.org.
We’re looking at some perfect kite flying weather. Lucky for us, the Birch Bay Kite Festival is on Saturday and Sunday. There will be food and craft vendors, kite making workshops, and, of course, kite flying from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Birch Bay State Park.

This year the folks from Community Action Project will be at the Kite Festival collecting clothing donations. They’re accepting any summer gear for all ages, including t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, sandals, sunscreen, flip flops and water bottles.
Any donations will be passed along to families in need who live in Birch Bay, Blaine, Custer and Point Roberts. So, bring your items to donate with you and help clothe families in need in northwest Whatcom County.
For all the details about the Birch Bay Kite Festival, go to birchbaywa.org.
This week’s featured live show is a great rock show on Friday at the Blue Room in downtown Bellingham. Thoughts for Builders, Terminally Dumb and Energy Pyramid will bring a mix of progressive rock, punk, grunge and psychedelic surf to the all-ages stage. Expect an epic pit.
Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at blueroombham.com. Get them while they’re hot.
