BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Additional funding is helping to boost local efforts in providing affordable homeownership in Whatcom County.

Kulshan Community Land Trust has announced they have received a $30,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to go towards its Homeownership Opportunity Program (HOOP).

“The stability that comes from years-long relationships with committed funders really makes this work possible. We appreciate Wells Fargo and their support,” said Grants &
Communications Coordinator Molly McKinney-Holcomb.

According to the Kulshan, HOOP is a program that educates, counsels and empowers first-time lower income homebuyers. Kulshan Community Land Trust is a trust that purchases land and then allows people to purchase the house that the land sits on. By doing this, it gives homeowners the ability to own a house more affordably.

Kulshan says that they expect the program to handle about 10 sales using the grant funding, which would move an expected 28 people off HOOP’s waitlist for housing.
