SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Fishers on the San Juan Islands will soon be limited to one salmon per day.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the reduction Friday, Sept. 20, citing higher-than-expected coho catches that have been reported. The previous limit was two salmon per day.

The new one-catch limit will be in effect from Monday, Sept. 23 through the end of the season on Sunday, Sept. 29.

There is no minimum size for salmon catches, but sockeye, chum and Chinook have to be released.

The limit reduction does not apply to Bellingham Bay, where there’s a four-catch daily limit. Bellingham Bay is open for salmon fishing through Sept. 30.
