MOUNT RAINIER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The remains of two Naval aviators are being returned to their homes in northwest Washington this week.
Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay Evans and Lt. Serena Wileman were on an EA-18G Growler jet that crashed near Mount Rainier on Oct. 15 during a routine training flight. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island says Wileman is coming home to Oak Harbor around 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. Evans will return to Anacortes later this week.
President Joe Biden praised both aviators for their recent work in the Middle East defending against Houthi missile and drone attacks in the Red Sea.
NAS Whidbey Island says both will be remembered for their tenacity, leadership and positive energy they brought to Naval Aviation.
