LUMMI ISLAND, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The Lummi Island ferry is back in operation after experiencing service outages over the weekend.
Whatcom County Public Works says the Whatcom Chief resumed service at around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 following a series of unexpected delays.
The interruptions began on Saturday evening when a frayed cable at the island-side terminal limited the ferry’s service during specific tides. The outage carried over to Sunday, as crews continued to repair and reassemble equipment at the terminal.
Public Works says the outages were necessary to ensure a safe ride for passengers and thanked them for their patience during the delays.
