OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington’s Attorney General is warning federal employees about a buyout offer that he and 11 other state attorneys are calling misleading.

On Jan. 28, the Office of Personnel Management sent out an email to millions of federal workers about a new deferred resignation program. The program supposedly offers federal employees pay and benefits through Sept. 30, 2025, if they resign by Feb. 6.

That email and a follow-up email from the OPM also warned workers that they were not guaranteed to keep their jobs for they didn’t resign by the deadline.

Attorney General Nick Brown is urging federal employees to speak to their union regarding the offer.

“I urge federal employees from Washington state, and federal employees working in our state, to contact their union if they are curious about this so-called buyout offer,” Brown said in a release. “When I was a U.S. attorney, I saw firsthand the important and needed public services that federal employees provide. These shameless attacks on our federal workforce by a lawless president must stop.”

Two of the largest federal employee unions in the country warned their members against accepting the offer, one saying that employees that take the offer may not be guaranteed its benefits.
