BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom Community College (WCC) has officially named its newest president following a nationwide search.

WCC announced that Dr. Justin Guillory will take over as head of the college on May 1.

“I am deeply honored to join the WCC family,” said Dr. Guillory in a statement published by the college. “I look forward to working together to enhance opportunities for our students, strengthen our partnerships with local communities, and ensure that WCC remains a place where students can excel, innovate and lead.”

Guillory previously spent 18 years with Northwest Indian College, including 12 years as the president. During that time, he helped guide the college through the difficulties of the pandemic and helped launch three of its four bachelor’s degree programs.

He’ll take over for Dr. Kathi Hiyane-Brown, who’s set to retire on March 1 following 18 years with WCC.

WCC touted Guillory’s extensive experience in higher education leadership and his shared vision for the college’s future as the main reasons for his hiring.

Meanwhile, Northwest Indian College continues to look for its new president after it replaced Guillory with an interim leader last October.
