BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local nonprofit is looking to celebrate women and their wild side in the lead up to International Women’s Day.
Shifting Gears is hosting the 7th annual Wild Women Week. The festivities kick off on Tuesday, Feb. 25 and events will be held every day until March 8. The events will take place over two weeks as the number of events has increased since the previous years. The first event will be at Structures Brewing in Bellingham and features a women’s film fest.
Shifting Gears Vice President Mackenzie Lynch said that the original goal of both Wild Women Week and Shifting Gears itself is to offer women-led community for those that felt apprehension being in male-dominated spaces such as outdoor recreation.
Events are free or low-cost for women and non-binary people, and outdoor events where equipment is limited will prioritize people from those demographics.
“While we have a lot of outdoor events like mountain biking and gravel riding and rowing on the water while it’s kind of cold, there’s also things like line dancing at Kulshan [Brewing] and bowling,” Lynch said. “So, for folks that are maybe a little bit more inclined to spend time indoors, but want to still celebrate Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day and meet people in the community, there’s something for everybody.”
