OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A proposal to overhaul the state flag is among the bills that have bit the dust as the first deadline has passed for lawmakers in Olympia.
Friday, Feb. 21 was the final day for policy bills to be passed out of their respective committees.
Among the dead bills is one that would have created a committee to redesign the state flag, which its authors called poorly designed and irrelevant to the state itself.
Another bill that didn’t make that cut would have instituted an annual minimum wage increase of $1.50 across the state, all the way up to $25 an hour by 2031.
Lawmakers also didn’t bite on a bill that would have established more checks and balances on self-checkout at grocery stores.
And you’ll have to wait another year for a state clam after legislation to honor either the Pacific razor clam or Pacific geoduck with the prestigious title fell by the wayside.
It comes as this Friday, Feb. 28 is the final day for fiscal bills to be read in their respective committees.
