BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – April 15 isn’t just Tax Day, it’s also a key deadline for Whatcom County’s biggest race of the year.

Ski to Sea organizers say that Tuesday, April 15 is the final day that teams can request a refund if they’re not able to participate in the race on May 25.

Refunds are not typically accepted for the race, but organizers say they’re making an exception this year because of the lengthy 49-team waitlist.

The multisport relay officially sold out on March 22, marking the earliest date the race has sold out in over a decade.

Former race director Anna Rankin tells My Bellingham Now that everything is going to plan after a low snowpack forced them to have a backup for the ski leg ready last year.

“We got a great base right at the beginning of the season and have had a couple more feet in the last few weeks, so snow is not going to be an issue this year,” Rankin said.

My Bellingham Now will be providing live coverage of the race on May 25 in tandem with KGMI from the starting line at Mount Baker to the finish line in Fairhaven.

Meanwhile, the Jr. Ski to Sea race will take place on May 10.
