The Mariners are looking to rebound from yesterday’s loss in Game 2 against the Athletics tonight.

The M’s fell to the A’s 6-4 in the series opener at T-Mobile Park after fumbling an early lead.

Cal Raleigh and Dom Canzone each homered to help build an early 3-0 lead for Seattle. Raleigh’s 156th career homer tied Raúl Ibañez for eighth in franchise history.

But the A’s came roaring back behind three solo home runs to get back into the game. It all fell apart in the 8th inning, when the A’s loaded the bases and scored three runs off Casey Legumina to take the lead.

A late RBI double by Leo Rivas wasn’t enough to rally in the ninth as the M’s fell to 10-14 on the season. The A’s took sole possession of first place in the AL West, now leading the Mariners by 2.5 games.

Luis Castillo is on the mound today as the M’s look to even the series up. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

With the NFL Draft just days away, it’s no secret what the Seahawks want to do.

General manager John Schneider told reporters yesterday that the team will be looking to trade back.

The Seahawks own just four picks in the draft, including No. 32 overall, which are the fewest in the league. Schneider said he’d even entertain offers from their division rivals in the NFC West.

Reign News

The last original member of the Seattle Reign is calling it a career.

The team announced today that midfielder Jess Fishlock is retiring at the end of this current season.

The Reign’s inaugural roster featured a star trio with Fishlock, Megan Rapinoe and Lu Barnes, who have both since retired. The group won three league titles and Fishlock will retire as the Reign’s all-time leader in assists.

She’s the longest tenured player in the 14-year history of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Storm News

The Storm will be missing one of their top players to start the season.

The team announced that Ezi Magbegor will miss the beginning of the season due to a right foot injury she suffered while playing for Australia in the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The Storm say they’ll provide updates on her progress in six to eight weeks.

Magbegor signed a three-year deal to return to Seattle last week.

The four-time All-Defensive Team selection has played her entire six-year career with the Storm. She was their top returning scorer, rebounder and shot blocker after the team lost a flurry of key contributors in free agency.

The Storm open their season at home on May 8 against the Golden State Valkyries.

HS Sports News

A flurry of new rules will take effect next school year in high school sports.

The WIAA announced yesterday that it approved 22 out of the 35 amendments it voted on.

One of the amendments will eliminate the socioeconomic factor as a way to automatically determine a school’s classification. 

Cascadia Daily News reports that, under the new rules, Mount Vernon High School would jump from a 3A to 4A classification by 2028 if it doesn’t appeal or loses any potential appeal.

Another new amendment will increase the running clock time for varsity girls flag football matches to thirty-minute halves. There’s also new mercy rules for fastpitch softball games and increased time limits for individual wrestling matches.

The approved amendments will take effect on Aug. 1, 2026.

Meanwhile, an amendment proposed by several Whatcom County school districts that would have required private schools with 90 or more students to move up to a higher classification failed.

Another proposal to ban transgender girls from girls sports failed for a second year in a row, though it was still an advisory vote only since it couldn’t be put into effect under current state law.
