WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County’s economy got some positive news in the state’s latest jobs report.
The Washington State Employment Security Department said the county added just over a thousand jobs from April to May.
The growth caused the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate to drop slightly from 4.8% to 4.5%. That was still higher than a year ago when it sat at 4% in May 2025.
Skagit County saw a nearly identical trend, with its jobless rate lightly dropping from the previous month, but remaining higher than the same time last year.
The state’s next jobs report is scheduled to be released in mid-July.
