BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A Bellingham woman accused of attempting to kill her two children has been found competent to stand trial.

Medical professionals submitted a competency evaluation for 43-year-old Brenda Wilder-Brown to Whatcom County Superior Court on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Following a competency restoration that began in June, psychologists determined that Wilder-Brown’s condition has improved enough to continue with trial proceedings. Her competency report notes that consistent medication and treating a separate health issue helped her condition improve.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that Wilder-Brown was arrested in May after a 4-year-old boy was found with several stab wounds at a Bellingham home. A 9-year-old girl who called 911 didn’t have visible injuries, but told dispatchers she feared for her life.

Wilder-Brown told investigators she had been playing with the children before experiencing a blackout period.

She pled not guilty to two counts of attempted murder in June, prior to her competency restoration period.

A trial date will be scheduled during her next court appearance on Thursday, Oct. 1.
