The Seahawks are playing their final game of the preseason tonight.

They’re facing off against Andy Reid and the Chiefs in Kansas City.

Seattle’s still searching for their first preseason win after struggling in games against the Cowboys and Titans.

None of their starters will be playing tonight, as was the case with their other preseason games. But coach Mike Macdonald says second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe will be playing the entire game, with backup Drew Lock riding the pine.

Kickoff is at 5:00 on KGMI.

Mariners News

The Mariners are kicking off a six-game road trip out East tonight.

They’re in Toronto for the first of a three-game series against the Blue Jays.

It will be their first time back at Rogers Centre since their devastating Game 7 loss to Toronto in last year’s ALCS.

The Mariners currently sit three games behind the Astros for first place in the AL West, while the Blue Jays sit three and a half games out of the final wild card spot despite owning the worst record in the highly-competitive AL East.

Emerson Hancock is taking the mound for Seattle tonight against Toronto’s AL Cy Young favorite Dylan Cease.

It was a successful return for Western’s soccer teams at Harrington Field yesterday.

First, the 18th-nationally ranked women topped Hawai’i Hilo 2-0 thanks to a brace by former Ferndale standout Audrey Holdridge. Western’s suffocating defense didn’t allow a single shot on goal in the match.

After that, the Vikings men pulled off a remarkable win, rallying from a halftime deficit to score three goals in 10 minutes in their 3-2 win over Chico State. Senior co-captain Edgar Serrano scored a pair of penalties and junior Lunden Fenster added his first career goal, while drawing both penalties that Serrano scored.

Each of the Viks’ next games will get even tougher.

The men are playing 5th nationally-ranked Stanislaus State at Harrington Field at 7 pm tomorrow night. The women are hosting #10 UC Colorado Springs at 11 am on Sunday.

 

Meanwhile, Western’s volleyball team pulled off an impressive comeback earlier today.

They rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Chaminade 3-2 in Ellensburg. Before that, they fell to 4th nationally-ranked Point Loma yesterday in a three-set sweep. 

Next up, the #20 Viks will face San Francisco State at 4 pm tomorrow to wrap up the CWU Invitational.

Prep Football News

Some of Whatcom County’s prep football teams are scrimmaging this weekend as the season nears its return.

Lynden, Lynden Christian, Ferndale and Mount Baker will all be at Lynden High School this evening for a jamboree at 6:00. Nooksack Valley is down south in Lake Stevens for a scrimmage of their own.

Bellingham is playing Cleveland at Bellevue Christian High School for another scrimmage tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, Meridian and Blaine will both be at Meridian High School at 1 pm tomorrow.

The high school football regular season kicks off next Thursday in Whatcom County, when Lynden Christian hosts Franklin Pierce and Bellingham hosts Archbishop Murphy. You can catch the Lyncs’ game on KGMI.
