BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The owner of a downtown Bellingham coffee shop is back from federal immigration custody.
Cof& owner Oscar Quintero Frias said on social media on Tuesday, Oct. 13, that he’s been released from ICE detention under “certain conditions.” My Bellingham Now has reached out to Quintero Frias for further comment.
Quintero Frias was arrested at Sea-Tac Airport on Sept. 15.
The Department of Homeland Security said he lawfully entered the U.S. from Columbia in February 2021, but only had permission to stay for six months.
According to past reporting from Cascadia Daily News, his family says he is a lawful permanent resident, but not a U.S. citizen.
Quintero Frias thanked the community for their support during his time in detention and says he’s still finding his footing while knowing “there’s a road ahead.”
A GoFundMe raised over $60,000 for his legal fees and detention-related expenses.
