FERNDALE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Plans to extend municipal sewer services in Ferndale are being shelved, for now.

City council members voted 3-3 with one absence earlier this month on a contract that would’ve stretched city sewer lines into the Grandview Road area.

Due to the tied vote, the motion was unable to move forward.

The City of Ferndale annexed a portion of Grandview Road in 2010 and conducted an analysis on a municipal sewer extension last year.

It would cost the city roughly $4 million just to accept the proposed sewer design, with additional costs expected for the construction phases.

Council members also heard from members of the public during their regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 19 regarding more potential annexation.

About 12 acres are located within Ferndale’s Urban Growth Area, another 30 acres are owned by the Ferndale School District, while another 14 acres are privately owned.

Many impacted property owners signed off on a petition last month to approve moving ahead with annexation.
