BELLINGHAM, Wash. – There is a new pump track coming to Bellingham.
The Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition, known as the WMBC, says in a Facebook post they are designing a new bike track for Birchwood Park.
The organization is currently stockpiling materials for the project and construction should begin this spring.
The new pump track is expected to open this May or June.
Funding for the project came from donations the WMBC collected during their Dream Bike Build initiative last year.
Birchwood Park is located on Cedarwood Avenue just north of Squalicum Creek Park.
And if you are a mountain biker, here is a great volunteer opportunity for you.
The WMBC is looking for local cyclists to work as ambassadors on trails around Bellingham.
Ambassadors will ride trails twice a month, update trail conditions, greet mountain bikers and other trails users, and attend regular ambassador debrief sessions at a local brewery.
The WMBC currently needs ambassadors for Lookout Mountain, Blanchard Mountain, Chuckanut Mountain, Stewart Mountain, and the pump tracks at Whatcom Falls Park and Bellingham’s Waterfront.
If you are interested in becoming an ambassador, send an email to shannon@wmbcmtb.org and tell her which area you would like to ride.
