BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Two people were arrested after leading police on separate high-speed DUI pursuits.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says a fight in Bellingham led to the first pursuit early Saturday morning, February 11th.
The driver was unable to stay in their lane and topped 100 mph on I-5 NB.
At one point, the driver left I-5 NB and drove the wrong way on I-5 SB.
The suspect vehicle stopped shortly afterwards, and the driver was arrested following a foot chase.
38-year-old Daniel Szczygielski admitted that he had been using drugs earlier in the evening.
A search of his vehicle turned up a stolen handgun, fentanyl pills, and stolen mail.
Later that morning, deputies investigating a hit-and-run crash on Slater Road found the suspect vehicle driving away from the area.
The driver took off, reaching speeds up to 110 mph before deputies were successfully able to stop the car with spike strips.
That suspect, 34-year-old Michelle Diaz, also fled on foot before being taken into custody.
