FERNDALE, Wash. – The City of Ferndale is offering a unique incentive for residents to help build more affordable housing units.
Mayor Greg Hansen announced that the first ten residents who build an ADU on their property will get a free, Metallica-inspired shirt.
An ADU, or Accessory Dwelling Unit, is a residential unit on the same lot as an existing single-family home.
Those units are required to have their own kitchen and bathroom facilities, as well as a sleeping area.
Hansen says the addition of an ADU will help property owners increase the value of their homes in Ferndale.
