BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Bellingham City Council is all-in on one bin.

Members voted unanimously in favor of switching to single-stream recycling that will allow residents to put all recyclable materials into one bin instead of three.

Public Works and Sanitary Service Company say the system should actually get people to recycle more than they do now.

Another change is to provide food scrap and yard waste containers for every address at no additional cost to the customer.

The goal is to compost those organic materials rather than send them to landfills where they contribute to methane emissions.
