FERNDALE, Wash. – There will be a special ceremony at the Greenacres Cemetery in Ferndale on Memorial Day as a local Boy Scout debuts his Eagle Scout Project.

16-year-old Jayden Gill reached the highest rank in the scouts by designing and fundraising for a monument honoring the “Global War on Terrorism” as we have reached the 20th anniversary of the Iraq War.

The monument will be placed at the Veterans Memorial at noon on Monday, May 29th, during the Avenue of Flags Ceremony organized by the Whatcom Allied Veterans Council.

The event will include guest speakers, patriotic music and a flag raising as well as the unveiling of the monument.

In Bellingham, the American Legion Post 7 is hosting two ceremonies on Monday.

One at Memorial Park behind the Sunnyland School in Bellingham that starts at 8:45 am and a second ceremony at Bayview Cemetery on Lakeway.

That one starts at 11 a.m.

Both of those ceremonies will feature music and vocal presentations, flag presentations and a wreath laying.

And the Whatcom Memorial Day Parade kicks off Saturday, May 27th at noon at the corner of Alabama Street and Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham.

The parade will head down Cornwall and wind through downtown Bellingham.

The Whatcom Memorial Day Parade includes commercial entries, schools, fire and law enforcement agencies, as well as all branches of the armed services.
