BLAINE, Wash. – A historic ferry out of Blaine will not be carrying passengers this summer.

Officials at Drayton Harbor say the Plover Passenger Ferry will be out of service until 2024.

The ferry, which was built in the 1940’s, is undergoing extensive repairs for the first time since the mid-90’s.

Crews had hoped to finish the repairs before the start of the summer sailing season, but they’ll need more time to get the ferry back in seaworthy condition.

Drayton Harbor officials say they chose to prioritize customer and crew safety in their decision to cancel Plover’s sailings.
