BELLINGHAM, Wash. – More security measures are coming to Arne Hanna Aquatic Center following a weekend incident.

Recreation Manager Melissa Bianconi said that the facility has security on site and new locks will be installed on their bathroom doors.

A contract for the locks has been signed and will likely be installed during the center’s scheduled maintenance closure later this summer.

The City is also looking into purchasing a shower truck to accommodate more community members in an alternate location.

On Sunday, July 9th, the center was evacuated and closed after a person was found smoking an unknown drug in their public bathroom.

Earlier this year, the center had to close for a day following a deadly drug overdose in their bathroom.

Arne Hanna will be closed for scheduled maintenance, including the lock installation, between July 29th and August 20th.
