The children of a deceased couple from Point Roberts have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Whatcom County and several companies.
Gail Amundsen and Murray Church were found dead in their home on Thanksgiving in 2021 due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Their children claim that contractors poorly installed their furnace and failed to install the legally required carbon monoxide detectors in the house that would have saved the couple.
The lawsuit, filed on January 3, alleges negligence by Optimum Contracting, Andgar Mechanical, Shoreline Electrical Services and Triangle Tube.
It says all four had a part in the faulty installation of the radiation heating system.
Whatcom County and its employees are also accused of failing to properly inspect and permit the couple’s home in Point Roberts.
All four companies deny the claims and say Amundsen and Church’s deaths may have been caused by the couple themselves.
Their children seek damages including financial loss as well as emotional distress.
